Piston rings...any suggestions

Well, I probably won't be able to fully rebuild my engine like I had planned, but I am going to be taking it out and apart because of the windage tray. It is loose...and yes, I know there is a bolt on the passenger side of the engine that is supposed to hold it in place...but I tried playing with that, and my oil leak got worse! So, I am taking the engine out of the car to inspect more.

I was wondering, are there any brands of piston rings that are really good and give a total seal? If so, how much are they...and where can I get some?

Also, about raising the compression on the engine...aren't there metal rings in the head to act as spacers that can be removed without harm?

Anyone have a good set of 2.0L EURO pistons they want to give me while I am at it?

Also, are there any seals out there that are made for our engine that can definitely deal with synthetic motor oil?

I know there are a lot of questions...just pitch in an answer to one or more if you want/can.

Thanks a lot,
Paul

Be sure to check the ring groove clearence when installing new rings. If the clearence is excessive the new rings bounce up and down too much. This is compounded by the fact that the new rings are gripping the cylinder walls better than the old ones. Net result? The banging can break a ring or the top of the piston.
