Side Shifter Conversion Problem?
Ok guys, I just completed a side shift conversion my problem is.....
When trying to shift into 4th or 5th the rear shift bar hits the top of the engine mount bar where it goes through the circle. Are there some other type of front engine mount that I need to raise the bar up some? The engine also seems to be sitting a little bit lower in the engine compartment that before? I am going to replace the two round rubber mounts on the engine but I dont think that this will effect the shift bar problem? I have looked at every possible adjustment (not that there are many..) and there is no way to eliviate this problem that I can see? Anyone else done a side shift conversion and had a problem like this? As always thanks for your help!!!! Ben |

Did you replace the 70-72 outboard engine mounts with the flat peice of metal the engine bar bolts to?

The flat peice of metal bolts into the chassis using the two bolts that hold the rubber 70-72 mounts in the car. It has a third, larger, hole in about the center where the cast iron motor mount bar is connected.
Not really special piece, could probably make it yourself. I have the engine out of one of my cars right now so I'll take it out and measure it for you. The stock ones are nice because they hold the nut on top from spinning. Here is a pic of the 73+ motor mount at the point it mounts to the car. The large circle is the void left from the 70-72 mount. You can see how the mount goes further up into the hole than the 72 bar. Unfortunatly you can't really see the peice of metal the bar mounts to, I'll measusre them today. http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/914_engine_drop/914_engine_drop_pic5_big.jpg [This message has been edited by JP Noonan (edited 05-22-2000).] |
