Sun Visors
Has anyone found a solution for decaying sun visors?
I have thought of cutting mine open and restuffing them with something but how would I be able to seal them up properly?? I would love to know if anyone is making aftermarket ones that would fit. I have been trying to drive without them but they do have a purpose and I would like to replace them. MM |

I have seen posts by some guys that have found a good upholstery shop and have had them re-done. The pictures that I've seen look pretty good.

You can seal them up again by using Crazy Glue or similar product. Results will usually be somewhat...uneven, but it should work. Or you can glue the whole inside to the new foam with some of the 3M spray weatherstrip adhesive.
I've also heard of people heating up a pin or needle red-hot and using it to melt the vinyl together, but that sounds like a huge PITA to me! --DD

I've wondered if the visors from another car would work.. one that has solid visors not upholstered, I hate the squishy stock ones. I love the ones in the '80s 3 series BMW though. I think I'll take measurments from my M3 and see if they could transfer, they swing though so the clips would have to be added to the 914 - anyone tried it before?

If you buy a set of the reproductions from the link above, be sure to let us know how you like them. My visors are pretty mushy too and I would be interested in replacing them. A retrofit side swinging type would be nice too. When I clicked on the link I did not see any pricing. Hmmm...........Eddy

Thanks for the suggestions
Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try autosunvisors.com and let everyone know how they turn out.

I had a pair of visors whre all fo the foam had completely browken down. I cut two small slits in the top (at the seam) of each visor, one cut on each end. I then took some expanding foam and put the tube in the slits I cut, and slowly "filled" them. Once I had enough foam in them, I put them between 2 boards to hold them flat (so they wouldn't be round) until they dried - took a good 24 hours. There was some extra foam that oozed out the slits, but it cleaned up pretty easily.
