head gaskets for big bore?
I had my 2.4 liter engine rebuilt at Fisher Buggies in Tampa. Encountering various top end problems, we pulled the heads and found that Fisher did not use gaskets between the heads and the cylinders (jugs). Is this standard?--there seemed to be NO leakage.
Also, there were shims under the rocker arm mounts, even thouigh the engine has the 10 mm adjustment screw rockers and NO swivels. Why would that be? |

Gary,
You don't need a head gasket on these air cooled motors. You do need to lap in the heads. That is you use a valve grinding compound on the sealing surface and twist the jug in the head to develop a lapped surface. I have also found it beneficial before lapping to cut grooves in the jug. This provides interlocking rings in the seal surface once lapped. Good Luck, neil |
