Starter problems

The starter selnioid does not activate when the ignition is turned to start. The selinoid does activate the starter when I cross the yellow wire connection (50) to the positive battery pole connection to the starter. However, when I back track to the relay board, with the ignition switch in the start position, I do not get 12v at pole 6 on the engine harness connection. From where does 6 pole of the relay board obtain 12 v from the ignition switch? Is there a fuse link between the ignition switch and pole 6?

Nope, no fuse. The "signal" comes in from pin #1 of the 14-pin connector--that's the right-front pin on the right-front connector on the relay board. It also goes out to pin II (and IV?) of the four-pin connector on the right-rear of the relay board.

There seems to be some interruption between the ignition switch and the relay board. But check at the 14-pin connector anyway.

Is your car a 74 or 75? If so, has the Dreaded Seatbelt Interlock Relay been bypassed?

The body/electrical is a 72, so I don't believe there is a seatbelt interrupter. Does 1 pole of the 14 pin connector recieve 12v from the ignition switch?

Yup, it should come straight from the switch.

You can pop the back of the connector off so you can check for +12V without having to unplug the connector. I don't remember if the power to the ignition switch goes through that connector or not, but if it does you obviously want to leave the thing plugged in.

I found the problem. PO had cut the interrupter out and twisted the wires together, which came loose during rebuild. They are now soldered together. However, there is a relay in the area which is very warm. Any idea what the relay is? should I just remove it?

The only two relays down under the seat I know of are the Dreaded Seatbelt Interlock Relay, and the "door ajar" buzzer. Cars without the Interlock Relay may still have some relay that controls the seat belt light.
