Is it possible to put a 911 transmission in a 914?

I have a 2.0 engine and was thinking about putting in a 911 transmission instead of the one that I currently have. I am ultimately thinking of changing my 2.0 l to a 327 cu in. thats why i want a better transmission.

Any ideas... jpablo72@hotmail.com
Thanks...

Well I have a 76 912E with a 2.0L Type-IV and a 923.xxx tranny that is identical to the 911/915. series transaxle. Difference acording to the Porsche manual are the ring and pinion ratio, the clutch tube and clutch operation (not a big deal), and the input shaft has smaller clutch hub splines. So I'm assuming you need a 912E input shaft (unless it is a 901 part) with only 2000 912E's made it will be hard to find. The manual does say that the 923 trans fits in any 915 aplication so once you did the swap the 327 should fit with a "regular" 915 adaptor.

Even if the above was worth while, the shift linkage to make a 915 work in a 914 is around $1500 (I think) from "Velios"(sp?). Other linkages are said to be inferior, and not that much cheaper.

The other option is to re-build the 901 you have to handle 200-250 hp, something that is very do-able I'm told.

Before the whole V-8 debate starts again, look in the arcives for similar topics about converting and beefing up the trans AND the frame, AND the C-V joints, AND the brakes AND etc..

Check out Red Dawg Racing. They can set you up with the subframe for the 915 transaxle, linkage and chevy engine for I think it was $900. They also have a video which shows everything you need to know about the conversion. I am not with Red Dawg I just bought the video. Lots of info if you don't know of all the things that need to be done.
