I personally would be hesitant to purchase an engine rebuild from someone whos only existance can be seen through ads that anyone can place on any of the 914 websites. As far as I can tell he has no shop, website, etc...
This is not to say that he is not legit, he may very well be capable of doing excellent rebuilds out of his garage and selling his work to other enthusiasts. All I am saying is be carefull, make sure others who have delt with him are satisfied. I personally would stick with a company like FAT Performance who has a known solid reputation even if it would cost me more initially, that is better than paying for it later down the road. Just my thoughts! -Brent |

check the archives on www.rennlist.com ... we had some discussion about/with the guy a while back. if i recall correctly, the list was pretty dubious of a guy claiming to put out 150hp without changing the cam, big bore, or higher compression (i think he was saying he can get those numbers out of a otherwise stock 2.0, but i could be wrong). i don't think an answer was ever provided at the end of that discussion, trade secrets i guess? I'd e-mail him and find out if he'll tell you some specifics...

I bought a couple of parts from Alan last year and that went very smoothly...can't vouch for engine building though. Perhaps he would give you a few references to check out?

I e-mail him about his 2.0L engine before, and this is his reply mail.
"I rebuild and modify Porsche 914 engines. I have been doing this for 20 years. The 140hp engine is a modified 2.0L engine using OEM German parts, to ensure high reliability. Each engine has a one year warrenty. The cost to ship to you would be approx $150.00 Call 508 460 9123 for additional info. Alan Bishop" |

I would check with the Norteast PCA region
maybe you can contact the Tech Chair for that region and get some feedback. He has been advertising parts and engines for a while on this website you can check previous posts. Joe A |

To add, I've emailed him several times now. It appears that he basically makes the engine a high air flow engine. This removes low end hp and adds to high end hp. So now your getting 180h.p. at 4000rpm, but 60h.p. at 1000rpm. Of course hes adding parts to it as well.
Now please understand this, Im not ripping on him or the engine in anyway. I drastically exagerated the numbers to show a point. I have no idea what the real numbers are. Actually he seamed like he knows what hes talking about, and he claims the 150h.p. engine will last 100,000miles. |

hmm.. that brings up something we were talking about on the rennlist a while back about turbo'd supras making 1000hp.. if you need to take it up to a high rev to make the 150hp, is it really 100k miles of 150hp?.. or 80k of 60hp, and 20k of 150? etc..
