before you purchase any exhaust system make sure of the style of your hear exchangers. 1.7/1.8, 2.0, late, early? the one pictured looks like a 4 into 1. for the 2.0 you might give the final at www.triadwestperformance.com a look. there's no need to limit yourself to the bursch.

'72 engine?

Jake,

That air cleaner doesn't look like a '72 1.7 version. Looks like a later style, after they were required to add EGR. More importantly, what do your heat exchanger ends look like?

Thanks, Wayne (type47fan)

that was my point. a 1.7 engine does not ness mean 1.7 he's.

It's a 2.0 air cleaner from a 75 or 76. Is the motor really a 1.7? Are the heat exchangers 1.7 ones?

A number of companies make 914 mufflers. For one selection, see here:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/9144/POR_9144_exhaus_pg1.htm

The OEM one is probably the best quality. The Bursch probably will free up a little (very) bit of power. The Sebring is similar to the Bursch but with a bolt-on muffler section instead of the welded-on one of the Bursch. The two-tip one (Monza) is of lesser quality and sounds kinda buzzy and ugly.

I would recommend the Bursch due to the lighter weight and less cost than OEM.
