New seats for 914
Does anyone have any experience adapting/using after-market seats in a 914?
I've been shopping around and everything I seem to find is over 20" wide at the seats. According to my measurements, this won't fit in the 914. Any thoughts? suggestions? ideas? |

Anyone have experience with 911 seats? I see them advertised and on e-bay all the time... Will they use the same rails and mount right up?

They don't use the same rails, and they will not mount right up. They will also be much taller than the 914 seats, robbing you of headroom. (That's a major issue for some of us!) AFAIK, the only real alternatives are:
- The Renegade seats (which we also carry) - Koenig - Stock - Removing the back-pad and using Corbeau race seats (or equivalent) - Losing significant head-room or leg-room or both. --DD

These may also fit. If they're BF Torino seats, these guys import them.

The GTS guy is making a proto for 914's that will work with the stock back pad.

Dave (and everyone else),
Thanks a lot for the quick responses. This has definitely been a SORE spot for me the past 2 weeks. However, since I never did have the "original" seats in my car, I'm still a little confused. It seems the majority of the seats that "will fit" are bucket types but these don't seem like a comfortable alternative. I would prefer a pair of reclining seats with good side/lumbar support. The Renegade option is unfortunately not for me, as their seats are out of my budget. It's kind of hard to put $1000 in seats in a car that is only retailing for $3-4000. So, how much work is involved in removing the rear pad and "redressing it" so I can use other seats? and how hard is it to make it look "professional"? As far as the seats not fitting in the rear of the back pad... I'm sort of vertically challenged so I don't think the seats will ever be that far back. I was also hoping to put a power amp and CD changer for the stereo in those locations, so maybe that is the answer to my woes. I look forward to your input. Carlos |

It is not just a back pad issue. the firewall behind the back pad also creates the seat recesses. if you are of a slight build and lesser height, the Corbeau seats will work - but no one over 5'10 - 5'11 with any kind of meat on them will be able to drive the car, and the will be uncomfortably close to the dash on the passenger side. I know this first hand trying every to get a set into my car. The bottom cushion constuction of most seats is also a problem. You sit "in" the factory seats - only foam is between you and the fiberglass bucket. The sprung seats or those with any type of suspension, add significant height to the bottom cushion. You sit "on" that type of seat, adding a bolster to hold you. Recline angle can be another factor with some aftermarket race buckets. I ended up with the renegade seats and love them. For the best value and fit, I would simply stay with stock as they are cheap to buy and not bad to have re-done. There was a member either hear or on the club webpage that did a beautiful job modifying his seats - thats another option.
