Pics of cyl head (finally)!

OK, so it took forever, but it's all back together and runs fine, now my compression is at 131 psi and all seems good so far, cross your fingers, light a candle, have the medicine man wave a chicken around......

Familiar sight

test in car

The leak was here at the cyl/head joint, I had to grind off some bad casting material that was not letting the head sit flush against the cylinder

Il quattro cylindre

Back in, clean bill of health from the Dr's office

My lovely assistant - "You better not put my picture up on that car site..."
She wants her own 914 too.

So, hopefully I'll get a ride or two in before ol' Mother Nature puts us in the deep freeze for 9 months.....

Upsate New York??? I was stationed in the Saratoga Springs area twice while in the Navy and the winters were brutal!!! Of course the ice racing on Lake George was neat as long as you drank a few Molsen's before going!!!!

The heads look like they were converted into 914/2.0 heads. They have the other stud pattern in the intake runner sealing area. Any idea on that?

Hey Dave whattup
Are you looking at the side-view of the head? You may be seeing the gasket I left on there? I was lazy, and the gasket is a universal fit from European racing.
It's a 2.0 for sure....

Got it. I didn't realize that there even were "universal fit" gaskets...

BTW, I'd have a small chat with my machinist about why he missed the extra casting flash (or whatever it was) that didn't let the head seal in the first place.

(shrugging shoulders) - yeah, I don't really know what available or not (but I'm learning little by little) . I had to buy 'em seperatley because the generic gaskit kit only has FI stuff.

I reckon that's the price we hafta pay for not having any real specialists around these pahts as well. The original guy who did the valve job and port work has done aircooled in the past, however for the flycutting another good friend offered to do the work for me for next to nothing, and we both learned quite a good deal about compression figures, chamber volumes, valves and timing, etc etc. All in all, I'm really pleased with everything that I've done, and I think that (because of all your help) I've made some good decisions on the buildup, and learned a ton about this engine.

Yo Big
European racing's "H" cam, with their HD valve springs and lifters, rocker spacers, umm, ss valves and new guides, 3 angle valvejob, a little exhaust port work, 40idfs, 96mm KB P/Cs, 050 dizz with pointless/CDI, I think that's everything that's not stock.......
