Smoke at shift points

I am getting some grey/black smoke when I shift my 1.8L at certain times. It does not smoke when I am driving and the smoke is not blue. Any ideas on the problem? I am wondering if the FI is dumping too much fuel when I let off the gas to shift.

Any ideas are appreciated.

grey/black would be fuel...black is too much fuel and white/grey is too lean
