Was LSD an option for the 914

Was the Limited Slip Differental an option for the 914. Is there a way to verify if you have LSD.
Thanks

1) Yes, but a very rare one.

2) Yes--jack both rear wheels up in the air, and put the transmission in gear. Turn one road wheel. If the other wheel turns the opposite way, you have a conventional open differential. If it turns the same way, you have a limited-slip. If it doesn't turn at all, make sure that you have the transmission in gear.

Actually, I heard some of the early 914's did do some LSD (we called it "acid" back then, man) for some really far out "trips". By the mid-70's most had mellowed out and you rarely saw it used by the later cars.

Oh... not that LSD? Never mind... :<)

Did you mean "LDS" as in Latter Day Saints? No, they would never do acid, and I don't think you would even find one that would have a limited slip.

Oh... not that LDS? nevermind...

I have a friend who swears that "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is a coincidence and that none of the beetles ever ever did drugs. Oh, and one time he (my friend) took a ride in my 914 and liked it.

Along the same lines (and sorry to be serious here), what are today's options for a limited slip diff in the 901/11 and 901/12 trannies? I've seen 'super diffs' listed by VW parts houses but they seem too cheap to be a rea LSD.

A Quaife LSD will run about $1200 from GPR.
