Fuel pump

Hello all. Simple question, I am putting an '87 Chrysler 2.2L Turbo engine in my 914 and was wondering if the fuel pump is going to be able to handle the job. Any ideas?

I don't know the engine specs, so you would need to see what the fuel pressure requirements are....a 914 FI fuel pump puts out over 35 psi....that is if it a good running one.

Most used engines will come with the fuel pump. Either way, a permanently mounted fuel pressure gauge would be a good idea. When I did my conversion, fuel pressure was one my many problems.

you need at between 35 and 50 PSI for the fuel injection on the 2.2 turbos, if i remember correctly. if you overboost it, you will need to compensate for the extra air pressure in the manifold, so the need for more pressure arises.

Besides pressure aren't pumps rated in volume like Liters per Hour? A weak pump can cause a lean (equals boom) condition. The 930 for example has two fuel pumps. I have the following in my car and I think it would work for you.

Carrera fuel pump. you need to buy a "Banjo" fitting with a barb on the end and two sealing copper washers to adapt it to a 914. Or, like me, use a cut off end of a 911 fuel line with the Banjo on it.

3/8" feed lines 5/16" return. Both steel lines to replace my rubtured factory plastic ones. The 3/8" fits fine in 70-74 cars but is a sqeeze in the 75-76 (mine is a 75). I think the older cars have the 9mm-3/8" line as a carry over from the 914-6. Seeing as Porsche thought it neccesary to put a 9mm line on a 110hp (carburated, I'll grant you) flat 6, your turbo will probably need at least this size of line.

seems to me you need to get the specs for a chrysler/dodge motor not a 914 motor.

IMHO

The reason for the 2 5/16" in a '75 is that the pump is in the front of the car On a '75 the under tank fuel filter inlet is the 3/8" (10mm) size. After that, the lines drop to 5/16"

I'm taking the pump off the donor car. Thanks for all the input again.
