Intermediate plate
First of all, Happy New Year everyone!
Second, i am curious if the 914-6 intermediate plate had the same boss on the side of them as the 911's for the throttle cable, is it in the same position? Heres a few pics of my plate without the boss.

You'll find that the boss is there on the 914-4 intermediate plates; it just isn't drilled. I don't know if it's the same as on the 911, but I assume it is the same casting. Hmm, yeah--it carries a "911" part number, so it ought to be the same boss in the same place!

Dave, what are you looking at an early tranny intermediate plate? The two intermediate plates i have carry a '914.xxx.xxx.xx' number... Would you mind taking a picture of yours?
Anyone know the link to the post that 911mb did a while back? He was also making an intermediate plate.

Hmm, I don't know what part number my car's intermediate plate carries! I assumed (oops!) that the part number in the catalog book (1980 vintage) was the same as the original ones. Evidently the 911 plate supercedes the original 914-numbered one.
I still believe that the boss is there on the stock -4 plate. Hmmm.... I just checked one of my sources (Rich Johnson's repro bellcrank kit) and found that the boss that gets tapped for his kit is on the transmission case, not the intermediate plate!! I mis-remembered it, evidently. ![]() The 914-6 plate does have a tapped boss for the throttle bellcrank, though. The 914-4 plate does not; I thought it did have the boss (not drilled or tapped), but now I am not sure. Sorry, man. I drew too many conclusions from too little data, I guess. --DD

Some early tail shift 914 had the boss with a short bolt in it. I have a couple and they match the aftermarket intermediate plate with the boss. When I first found them years ago I was excited that I had some 914/6 parts but a cigar smoking fellow in Plano told me they were tail shift plates. I checked my pile of tail shift trans and sure enough there they were.

How can you tell the difference between a -Six plate and a -Four plate with the tapped hole?

Not sure, I'll ask the cigar smoking guy next time I talk to him but I think they may be the same. I'll send you one if you would like to look at it.

The early tail shifters had the intermediate plate with the boss on it for the throttle linkage. The 914/6 ones were tapped. Some of the early /4 ones were tapped also, but the majority of them were not.
The side shifter setup for the 914 eliminated the shift rod that came forward through the intermediate plate. So they redesigned it. In the process they eliminated the boss for the throttle linkage rod. YOu can put an early intermediate plate in a side shifter. It will just have an extra hole in it for a rod that you don't need.

Is there any difference between a 911 901 intermediate plate and a 914/6? The boss with the drilled hole looks like its in the same spot.

Intermediate plate
The intermediate plate for a 901 is identical to the 914/6 one.
THey will interchange. But you can't use a sideshifter plate in a tail shifter. No hole for the shift rod.

Didn't mb911 produce some aluminum intermediates a few months ago? I wasn't able to find the post he started on the project.... just curious how they turned out.

One guy on the 914club BBS is making them, too. There's a separate section for parts and services by 914club board members, check in there.
