so what to do when its raining, the shop is a little slow on the 1st work day of the new year, and there are some 8 x 16's laying around?

Getting PHAT? What, you're putting a whole 911 interior into a 914? (I hope you're fairly short, or you won't have any headroom using those seats.)

oops! wrong pics the first time around. so here i go- 8 x 16 951 fuchs on the front with 225 michelin sport pilots and 911 8 x 16s on the rear with 245 sport pilots. i think we have adequate rubber for this upcoming alfa race weekend at willow. more pics to follow once the car is on the ground

Ooooh! OK, that makes a lot more sense than pics of all of the parts from a 911 interior (out of the car).

Nice tire sizes! I take it you went after the fenders with a hammer and dolly? Or wait, I just see a hammer. Good job getting a decent shape with no dolly or form to hit against!

Stretching the metal is not enough. We had added a sliver of metal, back in the 80's, to accomodate the 7 x 16's- it was slightly banana shaped over each wheel arch.
today another long sliver of metal was added along the length and one on the vertical seam behind the wheel. It is all hammered using a dolly, then will be draw filed, then a little filler y voila! big tires on a somewhat stock looking car- all without GT flares

Having seen that car on 1/1/05, I saw the subtle fenders. It was pure class. Hope the new looks as good as the old and I'm sure it will.

That is a very pretty car. Shame to even scratch the paint. But, you own a shop and you were slow.....end of story.

I wanted to keep it subtle on the flaring, so it will look just about the same as when you saw it 2 days before the cut, weld, and grind- just meaner! thanks for the compliments

What size phone dials.I tryed some 88 fuchs from a 911 and the tires just hit the inner edge of stock fender.Do they also need to be rolled for the phones to fit?

16x8's require the fenders be tweaked in the rear....16x7's with a 23mm offset will fit without such extensive mods, but you might have to roll the fender lip a little....this picture shows 16x7's with 205/50s on all four corners...fender lips rolled just a little

Excuse me......I thought we were talkin' about gettin' some TIAR under these cars.

I'm indecisive about 10 or 11 inch slicks....or maybe *just*
9.5 cantilevers on 8 inch wheels.

Figured since the topic was shoehorning bigger meats under a 914, I'd post a pic of my little critter....

225/45-15's on 15x8 wheels.

I dunno, you build your car to what ever class structure you run and I do the same. The wise assed remark was aimed at the 205 folks....and done with a smile.

My class says 10 X 16 max wheel size, 2050 lbs,
and no twin plugs (SCCA Solo F Prepared). Previously, the car was over weight, under tired, under powered, and under driven. I figure I can deal with those first
2 items. My single plug 2.7 will have to do for the forseeable future.....and the driver will prolly always suck.

Looks good....I guess you have not seen my album on stretching fenders? you can fit 16x8s without welding using simple hand tools:
