914, 1.7I revs slowly
I am a new owner of this -71 914 which has 1.7 liter (original fuel injection) engine.
The car had been standing for quite some time.. Before I started it I changed oil, cleaned sparkplugs, changed fuel, checked the distributor, spark plug cables.... Then started.. Well, it started allright at some point, idled allright, but it revs up very slowly when pedal is pressed. My 911 is like WHAM! and its on the redline, this car, its like slowly turning the volume up on an amplifier.. Is this how it is, or is there a problem somewhere ![]() Where to look? Thanks

So guess these cars are like...if adjusted year ago, not driven, -> The right timing/dwell is off now?

My bet is the advance plate in the distributor is frozen. Take apart the dizzy and clean and lube it carefully, re install and set the timing and dwell.

it doesnt take 10 minutes to check dwell or timing....start off with that first. PLus if the timing doesnt change with RPM, then you know that either/both the centrifugal or the vaccuum advance is sticking. or unhook the vac advance and really go after that centrifugal adv. or you could take the dizzy out and take it apart.
