Performance problem
I have a 1.8 that was bored out to 1.98, has dual 36mm Dells and a Bosch 050 distributor. The problem I am having is that the car sits fine at idle and runs fine at low rpms, but when I go above 3000 it seems to suddenly loose power and acts as though the timing is off. When I check the timing at idle, it stays the same. When I first put in the distributor it ran upto 6000 rpm no problem. Then soon after, it started this problem after half a day of moderate hill driving. I live at 7000 ft above sea level. Does anyone have any ideas. It always runs rich and needs to idle at 1000 rpm in order to prevent it from cutting out at a stop light. I have a new fuel filter and the carbs have been rebuilt a few months ago. My suspicions are the jet sizes but I am not sure. The car has run perfectly well before on the same distributor, and carb setup so I am not sure if that is the problem ? Any ideas or advice is appreciated.
Thanks Cliff |

I had a problem that caused much confusion before I solved it. My symptom was I could drive the car with no incident for a couple hundred miles, then it immediatly lost power, would not rev over 3000 rpm, and would die under normal idle. The problem was a dirty gas tank. The more i drove, the more dirt would collect around the sock filter in the fuel tank, until my engine would starve. My advice
