Since mr-dwight is balking at someone's mention of $6000 (in conjunction with a Six swap), a minimum $6500 build of a Type IV does seem to qualify as a "pretty penny". I don't think you'll find many people who claim you are overcharging, not for what you do--but it sounds like what you do is more than mr-dwight needs.

It sounds like your new projects are going to make a Raby (-ish) motor much more accessible to a lot more of us. And that is a Very Cool Thing, IMHO!!

HP = $

Hey guy's,
I love reading these forums....I am a diehard 914er.....I have been down the road of 4banger HP and if you want the cheapest thrill just move from a 1.7 to a 2.0 It'll suffice for at least of year. My current car has a 2055cc in it with a scat 490/275 lift duration cam carbs light flywheel kerry hunter exhaust MSD webers la de da... $4k+ later I gained 1000k more rpm and maybe 25 hp....was it worth it? Hell ya but I know my next step is a six as it is only logical.
Thanks for reading
Joshua C.

PS will sell this engine in the spring only 2 yrs and 1000k miles old OR trade for a start on a 6 conversion

Here is my baby before the engine swap

'Beg yer pardon? There ain't no such thing as too much power! Okay, MAYBE, but a 350 conversion on a 914 is not too much power. Car setup is everything when you start increasing the pony count. If the suspension is setup well, and the transmission is setup well (like a 915 gearbox, or a reinforced and re-geared 901), and there's more than just 205 tires under the car, a chevy/porsche 914 can be a PHENOMENAL auotx car.

Same thing for a big six, or a big 4 for that matter. If the only thing you do is spend money for power, without improving the rest of the car, you wind up with something that feels uncivilized and becomes unpleasant to drive at the limit....

If I put a 350 cid in my teener and having no traction (or self) control, I think I would be driving sideways almost as much as driving straight.

I like Memphis late at night/early morning, not much traffic and the cops are OK. Bought out a 914 shop a couple years ago from Rex Wroten. I've lost contact with him but if you can find him, he is a retired Porsche dealer wrench. He kept his Porsche repair books so he could tinker at home. When you find him, ask him about putting 3 914s and a couple thousdand parts in an 18 wheeler, for an old man he can run pretty fast.

From what I have read online, you're work is great and I understand that good work does not come cheaply. I'm sorry if I came off as sounding skeptical about your prices; i just couldn't find any info.
I'll be in touch. Thanks!

The problem is there are so many combos! You have to talk to Jake to get a real price for what you want. Decide first how much can you afford then talk to Jake.
A real top notch 2.0l rebuild goes for $5-6000 these days. Jakes special combos add on from there depending on what you pick.
