73- on. any 2.0 L that did not equipped with a console had the oil temp gauge in place of the emergency brake warning light.

That is not entirely true. I have seen cars that were untouched, unrestored that had 1.7 liter engines and were 1972 that had the combo gauge from the factory.

Hey, not to hijack this thread...well, okay I guess I'm hijacking...but NickG, your profile sez you're from Vernon NJ...I am as well (originally)...are you a native or a transplant (not that there's anything wrong with that )? I'm thinking of coming down for some AutoX in Jersey but don't know much about the North Jersey PCA chapter...I've "heard" they are pretty hardcore racers...and I'm just a tire spinnin' hack...

Franklin? You mean the Flourescent Mineral Capital of the World? I spent (okay, wasted) a lot of my youth in the franklin dunkin donuts. Only thing in northern sussex county open past 10pm back then...oh yeah, we were livin' large in the Great White Kittatinny North...

Anyway, I guess I am guaranteed to have a lock on last place if I manage to get to any driving events. Okay, LOL, not that this would be any different than what I do here...

that is funny, I grew up a mile north of DD on rt23. at the light before 517, you more likely saw my red 74 914 sitting all forlorne in the lot next to my parents. I know they do a few ax's at englishtown or meadowlands. they have a lot of track days at limerock or pocono too i think....I used to sell parts to FAP and the other guy(alex is his name) on beautiful WOOSTER mass... small world

Curious!

Just goes to show, it is very hard to say "no XX 914 came with YY".

It seems safe to say that fairly few of the 72s had the temp gauge module in the combo gauge from the factory. I don't think that the 70-71 cars did (except for the Sixes, of course!); while I believe that in 73+ only 2.0s without center consoles did. (Except for a few presumed factory "boo-boos" like John Rogers' daughter's 74 2.0 .)

There is a trace for the temp sender wire on the 72 wiring diagram, but not on the 70-71 ones I believe.

i had never seen one prior to getting my 76 ...it has no consloe. I think that I prefer the combi guage to a center console, so i wanted to get another for my 6 conversion(it's a 72)

my bad. i thought i read somewhere reliable the statement i made. i had a 74 with the oil temp/gas gauge combo-no console 2.0L.
