clutch time

finally today me and my dad got the brakes done on my 71 1.7 so we decided to go for a spin well to make a long story short we hit the bottom of a hill truned around and the clutch decided to go out so now i'm wondering what exactly do you have to do to replace the clutch anyway?

Is the clutch bad? Could it be the clutch cable or another part of the linkage? Could it be the shift linkage instead? Could the cable simply be out of adjustment?

Replacing the clutch involves removing the transmission from the engine and from the car. Not all that tough, but rather time consuming.

Check Wayne's tech article on this subject. Check the "tech articles" section of this very website.

When you say the clutch went out, what EXACTLY happened. It could be a number of things other than the clutch. If the pedal when to the floor it is the cable. If the clutch won't let the car in gear it could be the clutch tube that hold the cable at the firewall, or the pivot bushing on the throw-out fork.

Or it very well could be the clutch... In that case check out the Pelican Parts tech article on replacing the clutch.

I need to learn to type faster DD.

when my dad hit the gas it reved to about 3000 rpm's and nothing moved except the rpm gauge the cable is fine so we are going to drop the tranny and see what is going on.

Try adjusting the clutch cable first. If thta cures the problem, you've saved yourself a whole lot of time and effort.

When you swap the tranny to a side shifter, hope you have all the other required parts (i.e. ALL shifter linkages and the different engine crossmember).
