Any insights on this 914 for sale?
I'm far from a 914 expert, but I'm interested in picking one up, as a restoration project. I saw this one on eBay that looks nice from the pics...
I e-mailed the owner, she says it's a '71 with original motor. When I asked about the fact that it says 2.0 on the back, not available in '71, she says it's registered as a '71, but the manual says '75, that's it. Something seems a bit off, enough to scare me away, but i thought i'd see if any of you experts have thoughts on this car... Something is goofy with the vin as thats a 75 914. Maybe they switched Vin Tags who knows....

A 71 VIN, supposedly registered as a 71. But it has the Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers (75-76 only), it has a 2.0 badge on it (73-75), it has the late-style (74-76) gauges, it has the adjustable passenger's seat (72-76)...
VIN swaps are very very very bad juju. Unless you want to have an up-close-and-personal talk with the Feds some day somewhere down the line, I would pass on this particular car. --DD

Like Turnbull has stated, this car has been discussed in detail on the 914club board. The car's vin # is that of a 75, yet the title the owner has lists a different vin #, that of a 71 car.
Please be very leary of this car for it could nothing but trouble in a legal sense.
