Can one use the cover plate from a tail shifter on a side shifter tranny, without
any problems and the with the ablity to connect everything together?
My '74 tranny has one rewelded mount(not very well) and I need or want to change it
out.

In my travels, I have seen it done. I don't have any personal experiece to give details though. Seems like it should be a easy swap if all the hole are plugged up.

I have seen it done. You can use the panel on the back for a jacking point.......thinking of doing it myself one day.
