Electric Heater
Has anyone seen or heard of any heater upgrades for the 914 that are electrical. I am running carbs and the heater fan tends to make to cab smell like engine exhaust.

Check out Electric Vehicle Sites.

Try cut and paste Solid-state heater core, 96-120VDC, 1500W -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This solid-state heating element can usually be used as a direct replacement for your vehicle's original heater core. The temperature of the heater core is self-limiting at 180 degrees F. The amount of heat produced is in proportion to the air flow across the element, so higher fan speeds will deliver more heat. The two-piece enclosure also allows use as a stand-alone heater. Core is 4.25"W X 5.55"H X 2.5"D and weighs 8.9 oz. Jim, you've got a water cooled engine, why the electric heater?

Mike,
it was/will be easier to plumb the electrons than the yucky green stuff. i AM open to suggestions on the whole heater core location and hose routing... then i just might have an electric heater up for sell. if that happens i'd like to get my whole 2 bucks out of it. heh heh then again electricity does heat quicker than the coolant... i am done rambling on this post -jim- |

Electric heaters won't produce that much heat. If you run the numbers, it requires something like 50 or 60 amps to get a reasonable amount of heat from a 12V system.
The heater for the EV is probably set-up to use a much higher voltage than our cars produce. Most EVs tend to run their systems at very high voltages--96V or higher, that I've seen. If you want to de-fog part or all of your windshield, an electric heater may do that for you. If you want to heat the cabin, the electric heater won't cut it. --DD |

Where can I purchase a solid-state heater core, #065-010? Tennessee gets pretty cold sometimes.
