Stock steering wheel fits across years

I'm sure this has been addressed but couldn't find it in the search. I want to put a stock leather (or faux-can't figure out if real leather was an option) covered steering wheel on my '70 column. Do I have to get a '70-71 wheel, or can I retrofit a later model using my existing wheel's parts? Does anyone know the model # for the correct wheel? I found 914.347.806.10 for a 70-71 leather wheel, but can't confirm this part #. Any help/suggestions would be great! I really need to get away from my stock, non-covered wheel as it just doesn't feel right!

Ben

If I remeber right, all the four cylinder wheels were interchangeable.

However im not sure about the 70 and 71 cars as the horn contact was different

what about the turn-signal cancel lever? Can this be switched between steering wheels?

The steering wheels are not interchangeble.

On other years there is a small inner lip on the flange. This will make a smaller mating surface and offset the wheel slightly higher.

When you have the later wheel on you can see a gap where normally the plastic cover goes over the metal housing of the ignition/turn signal.

Why not just get a leather 4 spoke cover?

AGFA or AFGA (forget the spelling ,but I can look up the part number from the box if ya need it) is the manufacturer.

Thanks for the confirmation...as I feared. I haven't seen a DIY leather cover that looks nearly as good as the original, so i'm trying to hold out for an original covered wheel on Ebay or the like. Guess I must wait out a '70-71.

AGLA products are crap by the way.. I got two steering wheel kits for my BMW and my 914 from them, and both of them didnt fit correctly.

On the 914 kit, the leather wasnt even cut straight in the sections away from the spokes, and the holes for the thread followed the poorly cut leather! Money down the drain....
