Front side light alternative.

My car is turning out to be anything but stock. I am curious if anyone has seen an alternative light that looks good on the front fenders, rather than the somewhat out of place round marker lights. Thanks

BURN-BROS 07-10-2005 09:52 AM

I dig the side marker light on the rear fenders of a 2001 F350 duallie(sp) . Very subtle IMHO.

tat2dphreak 07-10-2005 10:36 AM

jetta side markers look sweet too... small little ovals... seen 1-2 teeners do this conversion...

IMHO, though, what I really dig... is NO side marker, just smooth the hole over... nice.

philinjax 07-10-2005 12:48 PM

I used the newer VW side markers for this project.

those are the 'jetta style I was referring to... :) nice work!!

norustscott 07-10-2005 02:02 PM

None. works for me shave them off...

peter carroll 07-10-2005 02:11 PM

I agree with you Scott. I just don't feel like doing the work. We still need to get together. Shame on us for living so close together and not comparing notes. I think I want to sell my original orange ' 75 if you know someone that might be interested.............. How about a nice looking light that covers all the existing holes? Pete

ruddyboys 07-11-2005 05:01 AM

philinjax, I always liked that look too. How did you resess the light?

norustscott 07-11-2005 05:44 AM

I think I saw an LED version that was thin. Projected from the body about 3/8 "....still big and round though...

philinjax 07-11-2005 08:26 AM

Ruddyboys,
I cut a slightly oversized elongated hole in the fender skin, then
epoxied in a correctly sized 1/4 inch thick aluminum ring around the inside of the elongated hole. (Detail 1). I then ground and
filed a smooth edge around the outside edge of the hole. (Detail 2). After that, I applied a thin coat of bondo to the contoured surface and sanded smooth. (Detail 3).
It was a pita to do. Won't do it again.

damn, that makes shaving look EASY...

mad props for getting that to work and look that sweet!

Dave at Pelican Parts 07-11-2005 02:56 PM

The easy low-budget way to shave the marker lights:

Get a PORSCHE sticker (round or shield shaped) and put it over the hole....

Believe it or not, I've seen cars like this that looked quite decent!

Stickers are nice on dented bumpers too.

peter carroll 07-11-2005 07:43 PM

How about a 356 rear tail light? Thats keepin' it in the family. Can someone draw that up? Pete

tat2dphreak 07-12-2005 06:15 AM

that would be kinda cool... but IMO, that's still more work than welding up the stock hole...

SGB 07-19-2005 07:48 AM

haven't done it yet, though

I've got some kinda crummy lenses I wanted to see if I could just grind down some of the edge so they fit close to the fender. The bulb may be close enough to cause a heat related problem on the lense, but I could prolly find LEDs...

Very NICE

These are `68 roadrunner side lites. Only had to fill the two small holes!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1122089041.jpg
