Fender Rolling

Ok, I know I have seen post on this before, but can't seem to find them at the moment. Can someone reiterate the process for "rolling" the fenders baseball bat style?

European car has a little blip about it this month on the project 911 story.

Basically you use a tappered wooden dowel (O.K. a baseball bat) and slowly roll the car while twisting the bat. You work in very small increments until you get the desired clearence. It will most likly crack the paint so do it before other body work.

How big wheels/tires could you fit under the fenders doing this? This could be an alternative to flares if/when I go 5 bolt. Thanks

If you are careful you should be able to roll your fenders without cracking the paint. Just don't get greedy and try to go to far. You should be able to get 205s under a rolled fender. When I put 225s (7 inch wheels) on my car, no amount of fender rolling was going to be enough. I had to cut the fenders open and massage them, then fill in the cracks with more metal.

I converted to 5 lug a while back and was able to fit 205's without rolling the fenders. There was a lot of variation in the cars over the years, so if you only want 205's, you might not have to roll them.

I have 2 sets of wheels and 2 sets of tires.

I have original steel wheels, and empi style wheels with VW offset

I have 195/60R15's and 205/60R15's. I'd like to put the 205's on the empi's. The parts car I bought had this set-up on it, but it had the fenders rolled.
