LED replacement bulbs - suppliers?

I know folks are substituting all manner of conventional running lights with LED-based replacements - turn signals, dome lights, dash lights, etc. Longer life, less power, more durable - lots of reasons for doing so.

Who's got some suppliers that have the parts we need for Porsches?

Thanks,
--Steve.

A Google search for automotive led will give you a place to start. For example, check out automotiveled.com

Sometimes it is necessary to put a resistor inline since the LED bulbs don't draw as much as traditional bulbs.

I just sold a few red LED gauge illumination bulbs on ebay and I have a set in one of my teeners, cool. They sold for a lot more than I anticipated so I ordered a bunch of red, white and blue high intensity guage illumination LED bulbs from my far east supplier. These bulbs have a lens that disburses the LED beam in a wide arc for better lighting.

I plan on selling these bulbs on ebay at an opening price of about a buck to a buck and a half each. But for the members of this forum and perhaps the 914Club, I will be glad to sell them dirctly for $1.25 each plus $2.50 shipping of any quantity. Maybe I'll do that on ebay too. I should have my new shipment in before the end of this month.

Here's a picture of the stock incandescent bulb and the LED bulb. Notice the unusual lens on the LED bulb.

Phil, will those react similarly to the stock bulbs to the rheostat in the switch? Will they dim when you turn the knob?

Markeydoo, I take Paypal, $1.25 each plus $2.50 shipping. This goes for whomever wants to place an order. Same price for red, white or blue. philinjax, philliz914@earthlink.net

DD, No, the LEDs will not adjust intensity with adjustment of the rheostat however, they may go dark if the voltage falls below about 3.3 volts. The LEDs are either on or off, no in between.

My understanding is no. They are either on or off. Dimming can be accomplished by a chopper cct - turning the led on and off fast enough that your eye can detect it as a flash. The longer the ratio of dark to light the dimmer the bulb appears.

LEDs

I replaced the instrument illumination bulbs (2W) with the LEDs. The light is now a "bluer" white, but not all that much brighter at night. They do respond to the dimmer as has been mentioned before.

If you're looking for a different look, go for it. If you want a brighter illumination at night, send the instruments to North Hollywood Speedometer and have them do their LED conversion. They put in an array of LEDs, and it makes quite a difference. It's not cheap @ $300, but they do very nice work.
