The answers you seek can be found in the factory service manual, and possibly also in the "little spec book".

Splines: 29 (914-4) 30 (914-6)
--I believe they have the same number of splines at both ends.
Length: 611.5mm (24.075")
Diameter: 17.9mm (0.705")

The "length" figure, I think, the overall length--but it could just be the length of the "working" part. The "diameter" is the diameter of the "working" part.

Note that the -4 and -6 bars are the same sizes; the only difference is the number of splines on the ends. And those are the only stock 914 torsion bars--any others are aftermarket replacements or (possibly) were special-order racing parts.

29 vs 30

bizarro! Dave, speculate on this amazing tidbit.... why do you suppose the torsion bars for the six was machined with 30 splines? What would differ as a result?

ok, are 911 bars of the same dimensions?

BTW dave I do not own a teener (patience, patience). So i do not have the reference manuals necessary to look this up myself.
but i do hope to eventually.

This is a research issue for another vehicle of mine.
I am trying to find if any other t-bars might fit.

Thanks much
Rob

The 914-6 bars are 911 bars. Though I'm not sure which, if any, 911s came with 17.9mm torsion bars. The 914-4 bars are VW 411/412 bars, I think...
