Heater Blower Motor Assembly
Purchased a 1974 1.8 this summer and absolutely love the car. But as the winter months approach here in Clovis CA, it gets a little cool, and I noticed that I wasn't getting much heat out of any of the vents. I wasn't to concerned about the matter at all until I noticed, going through a box that came with the car, that there was a part in the box that looked an awful lot like an heater blower assembly.
![]() ![]() My Haynes manual is of no help, does anybody have any diagrams, schematics or pictures of how to install this thing into the engine compartment; any and all comments are appreciated. Thanks, Greg [Edited to fix the second picture. --DD] Last edited by Dave at Pelican Parts; 10-26-2005 at 12:01 AM.. |

Greg
That's the fresh air box and blower. It goes up front behind the gas tank. It really won't be of much help with your heat problem. |

Yep you're right, I've got one of those up front where it should be...the learning curve is a little steep on this thing at the moment. While I'm on the topic of looking stupid, take a look at the second picture that I posted, is the heater blower assembly there; or mia?
Thanks, Greg |

MIA. The second pic shows the left side of a 1.8s engine bay, complete with the little stand that the heater blower would be mounted on if it were present. That's the curved thing that sticks up from the engine shelf; a rubber pad goes on that and then the heater blower (looks very much like the blower part of the fresh air box you posted) is hose-clamped onto the stand.

Dave,
Does Pelican have this part? I looked through the on-line catalog and was unable to locate the heater blower assembly. If pelican doesn't carry the part, do you know where one might be had?...or should I just forget the whole thing and go buy a coat. Thanks again for your time, Greg |

Greg, I might be that the heater blower motor assembly is not in your engine compartment because the previous owner didn't have all of the heating system installed anyway. Maybe you don't even have heat exchangers, I've seen that before, stripped them off myself.
Buy a Haynes Manual, it will be your best helper next to having a 914 expert in attendance, a lot cheaper too. You can pick the manual on ebay or buy a new one. New ones are usually available at VW Bug supply stores/service centers. Phil |

We also sell the Haynes manual.
I don't know if the heater blower is currently available or not, but it wouldn't hurt to phone 888-280-7799 and talk to one of our friendly Sales staff about it. Frankly, though, used parts will be much cheaper, and the heater blowers don't seem to go bad very frequently. But I'd have a hard time putting an old crusty used part in such a pretty engine bay... Hmmm... --DD
