Opinions, advice, etc...
Alright, I am looking to get back into Porsche ownership again this summer, I already posted a opinion oriented thread on the 911 forum, but I don't want to limit myself to only a few models. I love all Porsches and have always had a taste for the 914s. I am looking at a budget of around 10k for purchase of another P-car this spring or into the summer. I know it is hard to find a good 914 on the east coast, but I also know there are some out there. What I am curious about is, how much do the 6 cylinder conversions usually sell for? I would absoltely love to get my hands on one, but I don't know what a good asking price for one is. Thoughts?

The main thought is to check all the resources you can. A few sources:
http://www.porsche-classifieds.com/ , the Porsche Classified Digest, searches several newspapers' databases all at once. http://www.cars.com lists advertisements from more. pmletter@aol.com, the Porsche Market Letter is nothing *but* Porsche classifieds. I forget what a subscription costs, but it's pretty low. The 914 Club's homepage, http://www.dgi.net/914 , has two sections where you may find cars for sale. The "Want Ads", and "Cars for Sale". (How logical--at least theat second one... ;^) The 914 Fan Page http://www.914fan.net has a "For Sale" section in its forum. It doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic, though. There is, of course, the "914 cars and parts for sale" forum here on the Pelican page. If you're in the Midwest, Perry Keihl's 914 Network a914man@netease.net in TN or Brad Mayeur's 914 Limited veldiadv@midwest.net in IL sometimes find reasonable cars to sell. And they're both good at making unreasonable cars into reasonable ones. Finally, the 914 Rennlist http://www.rennlist.org is a source of lots of 914 info, including some cars for sale. (Also check the "cars for sale" section of the website!) I see original Sixes running in the $9K-$13K range reasonably frequently. Conversions start just under $9K generally, and go up to $30K for some highly-modified ones. If you want a "fun" car to play in, you could do worse than picking up a stellar 914 for ~$7K or so, and using the other $3K for driving school fees and such. --DD |
