oil leak help
I have oil pouring out of a hole next to the oil pump. is it a pressure relief valve? is it an oil galley plug that blew out ? its a 1.8 in a 73. I started it the other morning and it dumped all the oil on the ground. Ive had a few of these cars before and never had this problem. Anyone, anyone, little confused!!!

Oil gallery plug. Do not drive the car with one missing!!
If the plug is in place, but leaking, you may be able to use a "freeze plug epoxy" to help keep it in place. You will need to clean the living heck out of the surfaces in the area, so you will have to remove all of the bits that get in the way of access. (This may very well include the fan shroud!) If the plug is gone, you might be able to find one that fits and epoxy it in as above. The preferred solution seems to be to thread the hole and screw a pipe plug into it. This runs the risk of getting metal shavings/chips into the oil system. So grease up the tap very well, and back it out and clean it off (and re-grease) every quarter-turn. It may also help to stuff the hole with a rag or with paper towels. --DD
