-6 conversion mount/CIS/turbo valve cover q's

Okay, I've gone back through the posts from others who've done the six conversion, but I have a question about how to get the CIS on my 2.7 to fit without cutting the trunk. Here are the facts:

==> I have a Vellios bulkhead mount (purchased long ago -- I wish Richard Johnson had started earlier!). At least one post alluded to shaving the bottom of the piece that fits to the firewall a little before attaching and welding. Is this a good idea? Does it work? Won't that interfere with the fit in the top indent in the firewall?

==> On the "turbo" valve covers: how much metal needs to be machined off and where?

Thanks!

--> project update <--

Drilled the holes for the oil tank today -- drilling the bottom intake hole was a PITA, since I couldn't get my hole saw in there (thanks again, dremel!). It took longer to get a good looking result, but I managed. The test fit was *perfect* . . . now to buy a powerball ticket!

I saw somewhere that people have put it in rotated 180 degrees(swap left for right) that may not be CIS though i just remember something of that nature popping up.

Just my two bits worth

Wayne got the 2.7 CIS motor installed in his 914 without any cutting. There is an article somewhere on the Pelican site that describes the process, but I don't know where it is. You can search around for it, or possibly ask him.

I remeber reading something recently about being able to fit the CIS without cutting
the Trunk wall. not sure if it was here or
on Rennlist.com... I think there were
some changes required to some of the CIS
parts. Not familiar with the Velios mount...

Good Luck

Conrad: Yeah, I've heard that it works for carbs. I wonder . . .

Dave: I've searched, and darned and darned if I can find the beast! I'll email Wayne for help when I've got the motor in . . .

A 2.7 CIS motor will fit w/o having to cut the trunk. Email Wayne, he can send you pictures. Also, so of the FI lines have to me modified.

The FI lines for a my 3.0 CIS were alot easier to install.

For the Turbo covers, the top section near were the suspension bolts/nut for the trailing arm is needs to be ground. I am not sure how much. I believe it is the top two bolt holes towards the tranny When I need to remove the valve covers, I lower the engine a little.

For the turbo valve covers go take a look in the 911 tech articles on this website.

You will see what need to be grinded off.
