Post Wobly tach

The tach in my newly acquired 74 2.0 isn't steady. If the RPMs are raised then lowered the tach lags a little bit behind the engine. Is there anything I can do it steady it and make it more accurate? This is the only one I've seen with this problem.

Make sure the points and condensor are in good condition, and that the wiring is OK. Make sure the dwell is set correctly.

If that isn't it, then the tach itself is the problem.

I would check the wiring but most likely its the tach. Take the tach apart and clean it. Most likely dirt is causing it to lag behind. The tach not being steady though is most likely a problem with the tach and it probably is in need of a rebuild. I had that problem with my speedo and had to replace the speedo after it got excessively bouncy. The new one fixed the problem. So most likely your best bet is to find a used tach that works good.

PP also has a gauge rebuild program if you are emotionally attached to yours and have determined that it is in need of repair.
