How hard is it/what do I have to do to convert to a 915 transmission...and what is involved in turning the ring gear around?
TIA, Paul |

The ring gears are not a huge issue and can be done by an average mechanic. The issue is the shifting locations. A 915 has a rod protruding straight out the back. The V8 converts use an odd bolt-on kit to get the 915 to mount with tail shifting. They try to sell bus CVs and spacers for the stock axles so you keep most of your parts. IMO this is the wrong approach. The axles can be purchased in 20-1/4" from sway-a-way or transform (look in the bug mags for transform) and this eliminates the need for spacers. Measure twice order once ;-)
Transform also has 930 CVs cheap about $60 each (german made). If anyone is interested I can post pics of the Vellios trans I finally received (side shifter modified 915 with 914 "ears") -Rich Hilgersom |
