Is this right? The 2.0 was only produced from
1972 on, and cases are marked with "G XXXXX" Thanks everyone, I want to be sure I'm shopping for the correct engine. |

Hey Steve,
Not sure about what year the 2.0L started, I thought it was '73 (don't quote me on that), however all three of my 2.0L engines start with GA XXXXX, and it's located on the block just forward of the oil fill/breather box. Hope this helps somewhat. Kevin |

There is also a GB XXXXX engine. This one is the 95/100 HP 2.0L engine. I think its from the '74 LE.

The "GA" engine is the US-spec 2.0 (73-74), 95 DIN HP.
The "GB" engine is the European-spec 2.0, 100 DIN HP. The "GC" engine is the US-spec 2.0 (75-76), 88 DIN HP. All of this info is in the 914 FAQ, located elsewhere on this website. --DD |

Correct me if I'm wrong. But, I believe the 2.0L started in 70 and ran through 72 as a six cylinder. I believe these are marked with 901xxx.
Then, 73-76 were 4 cylinders as mentioned above. I think you're only interesed in the 4's. |

The 70-72 2.0 one is usually just called the Six... Usually when we just state "2.0", we mean the 2.0 four-cylinder engine.

... not to be confused with the "GD" through "GE" (and beyond) which are bus motors and IMHO, nothing more than a PITA...
BTW if you can't tell the difference between a 2.0L Type-IV four cylinder and a 2.0L six cylinder... you should not be allowed to put gas in your own car. |
