914 speedo
Since the 914 speedo hooks up to the trans as I assume the 911 does also. Does anyone know what the relationship of turns of the rear wheel vs how many turns the speedo cable makes. Eg if the rear wheel makes 1 revolution how many turns does the speedo cable make? I am installing a 2.4 6 cyl in a VW pickup and would like to use the Porsche instruments. However the VW speedo is driven off the front wheel. There for 1 turn of the wheel turns the speedo cable 1 turn.

I don't know how many turns, but I recall reading somewhere on the Shoptalk Forums (http://www.shoptalkforums.com) that the 914 speedometer reads pretty close to correct when driven off the Bug sender.

When The Cap'n put the 2.4 in the ThunderBus (73 VW Bus), he sent the speedo to North Hollywood Speedometer with the motorr/trans configuration, and the wheel/tire size, and they calibrated it for him. Well worth the $.
BTW, the ThunderBus is now on it's way to the Netherlands to begin it's next faze of life. It will be remembered. |
