Porsche Crest Rivieras vs. 2.0 wheels

Which wheel is considered the best? I am purchasing a car with Rivieras and would rather have 2.o wheel.. Are they worth the same or less?

Thanks for any help.. Trades if possible...

Fakes OK with me...2.0....

Fuchs are forged, Rivs are cast. Fuchs are factory equipment, rivs are aftermarket. Fuchs are lighter. Fuchs often let you fit slightly wider tires in the rear.

Fuchs seem to be worth "about" $100/wheel. Rivs can be had for half that or less.

Fake Fuchs are cast, and heavier than the real thing. They seem to be worth somewhat less than the real thing when they are used--but I believe they can still be bought new. I personally don't like the idea, because I'm not sure how strong they are. The wheel was designed to be a forged piece, after all, and forged aluminum is stronger than cast.

riv's are usually worth more for scrap aluminum than for the ability to mount a tire on it

there is a reason you see so many of them, they are dirt cheap (I think you can still find them brand new for about $60 a pop in the VW Bug mags.)

Offset on Rivieras is different from Fuchs also, which DD alluded to with tire fitment

Lots of Fuchs available in California for good prices. Seems they are not cool there anymore 'cuz everybody's got 'em.

I have a set of repros on their way to me. Very good price, of course now DD has me worried about them......

I have never heard of a reproduction Fuchs failing (I have a cracked real 2.0 Fuchs at home with NO signs of impact)

Daves assumption ( ) is that the fake part is copied 100% off of an original one and not made thicker in the areas needed to have the same or near same strength as the forged part.

Very true, that is my assumption. I did not measure the fakes I had a number of years ago, which was a mistake in retrospect.

The wheels would not be DOT-certified if they were blatantly unsafe, and I'm pretty sure they are. But I do like the forged wheels better. If the fakes are thicker, then they are even heavier yet than the real forged ones.

Unless the porous nature of the wheel resulted in less material overall and hence reduced weight?

Okay, so I'm not worried anymore. And the wheels do look cool and we have all learned a valuable lesson.

I called Parts heaven to see the price differences. It appears the Fuchs are worth about $125 each and the other after market wheel $50 bucks.

What is the widest wheel width you can put on a 914? 5.5 inch?
standard 914....

thanks

6" fuch or cookie cutter or some 7" wheels fit with the right offset....

7's fit fine up front, as the front track is an inch less per side.... compared to rear

But you still can't fit anything wider than 205s, unless you are very lucky. And often enough, you can't fit 205s on 7" rims under the stock rear fenders--not without pulling them out a little way, at least on one side!

My 195-60-15 on the fuchs rubs a bit on the L front wheel well, aft of the tire and only on extreme L turns. Spotted a few old rubs, and a nice new black one when I was putting on the second horn, and scoping out the fuel pump. Clears easily in the back. Maybe that L front fender got put on first thing on a Monday morning, or is cockeyed from some minor bump.
