Hi all, ok next question!
It looks like I will be buying an engine from a fellow 914 enthusiast in San Diego. I will need to ship the engine from there to my home in Sacramento. Does anybody have any reccomendations of who I should use to do this and what it might cost? Thank You Brent |

Mikez, I read in a previous post that you used Amtrak to ship, when I called them today, they said they won't ship an engine!
Did I get the wrong customer service rep (uncooperative) or do I need to not tell them that it is an engine, tell them it is a machine or something? Thanks -Brent |

I use FWD air, for all my shipping of engines.
They can ship and engine from coast to coast in 3 days for around 150 bucks, just make the crate as small as possible, as they go by dimensional weight.. |

I don't know. I just showed up with an engine on a pallet, with shrink wrap. They took it at LA Grand Central Station and it went to Ohio. I was just the guy that delivered it. I did it for a friend, he bought it, the seller packed it and the buyer made the arrangements...It was cheap, like 150 bucks.
You could try being vague and tell them it is auto parts and/or box it with no way to see inside. I doubt that they would make you unpack it. Did you ask the shipping guy if this is a new policy? If it is not then, he is "interpreting" the rules wrong. |

Just for all of you to have a future reference in case you need it, here are the companies I called and their respective qoutes:
Roadway: ~ $350.00 Fed Ex Freight: ~ $480.00 Amtrak: Said they can't ship engines ForwardAir: ~ 16.00 per 100 lbs. So around $50.00 WooHoo! Plus it is like 1 day turnaround to boot! Thanks for your guys help! -Brent |
