sport exhaust for '73 2.0

Anyone know of dual outlet sport exhaust for 2.0 that looks like dual outlet sport exhaust for 911? Dual tips- one on each side, NOT a 4 outlet style. Thanks.

The only ones of those that I know of are ones that have been made from factory mufflers. I had one for a while, but sold it last year because it was too loud for my tastes.

Yep, I had one.

No overwhelmingly vast improvement over stock exhaust. It was unusually loud, gave the engine too much of a 1.6L VW sound, and I couldn't get over the Karmann Ghia look of the rear end (Remember, we're trying to shake that myth).

The Bursch single-outlet system is top notch for relatively stock (FI) or small carb(s) (40MM) engines. The Monza quad-tipped exhaust is the go-loud and deep-breathing (44MM+) system of choice, other than custom fabricated pipes (SuperTrap and such).

The choices may be few, but they're already proven.

Has anyone used the Bursch glasspack version? (The normal "steelpack" version is the one that uses a standard rectangular 'turbo' type muffler).

Just wondering if it is excessively loud and/or has any performance gains or flat spots compared to the standard Bursch.

Stu---- Are you still trying to make your 914 sound like a 911?

For a dual outlet exhaust try David Said at http://www.olywa.net/triad. This muffler makes a 914 sound like a 911 and looks cool. Everyone that auto-x's out here in the NW runs them. David is a great guy and know's his 914's.

Geoff -

That link seems to be broken.

I bought some (non-exhaust) parts from Dave Said last year and was VERY satisifed -- nice guy too.

I've heard the Triad is super loud. True?

Chris C.

Bleyseng- could you try another link? As noted above, it wouldn't work. Is it a Triad exhaust system? I've seen many adds for those for 911's. Thanks.

Try: http://www.olywa.net/triad
(The period at the end of the aforementioned URL was the problem.)

I don't think the Triad is very loud, about the same as Bursch but louder than a stock muffler. Quieter than the monza quad tipped systems thats for sure. I have listened to David's exhaust on a couple of cars. On a 2.7L 4 banger it was fairly loud, kinda of a deep rumble. On a fairly stock 2.0L it sounded fine to me, more of a 6 cyl. sound. Dave is a great guy too, with tons of 914 knowledge. His 914 with a 2.8 in it is a beautiful car. It was for sale for awhile.

I was just measuring exhauhst systems the stock 2.0 has 42mm pipe on heat ex. the inlet on the stock banana muffler is 42mm,The two Monza had 36mm inlet 6mm less this would seem to be restrictive on the gas flow(I am Running the banana).Steve

Sorry to revive this post again but I still haven't done anything on the muffler project. I would REALLY like to see/hear the triad in person before plunking down the bucks, if possible. I'm in So Cal (West LA). Anybody got one around here?

I need it to pass a 92dBA sound check -- the local autox venues have become sound weenies lately. Dave thinks it would be fine but I don't know if it has actually been metered. Plus I don't want my house egged (or firebombed) by the neighbors

Chris has seen this, but the others may not have....

The muffler is two turbo flowmasters set on a side by side basis....see the bottom of the page. They do a 90 degree turn out of the heat exchangers/headers go thru the mufflers and then out each side. I added resonator tips and later a cross over pipe before the mufflers. It passed the noise police and cost 250 bucks installed, less the tips.
