Red face Swiss cheese in front trunk

Hi All-

I've recently acquired a 1972 914 as my latest project. Traded my 87 924 to my buddy for it.

My 73 914 didn't nearly have as much rust but found the floor in my garage with the latest one under the spare.

Here's the (ouch)....

I'm sure this is not the first in the world to have rust here, but looking for ideas of what others have done.

Thanks,
Nate

In chronological order
1973 914
1987 924S
1972 914

That looks to be an under-body aftermarket sway bar. I thought most of those mounted to the steering rack supports, but it looks like that one doesn't... It seems like it would be in the way of the torsion bars?

It almost looks like that hole was cut, not a rust-through. It's in a somewhat unusual place for a rust-through.

Anyway, you can check around and find repair panels from "sawzall victims" on the Parts For Sale BBS here and the equivalent one on the 914club BBS.

Nate: They are going to cut up two cars at the Ron and Glen Flesh roasting and swap-meat. You could prolly get it there. It's on the 30th. More info on The 914 Club.

fwiw. your breaker bar will fit right next to the jack, retained by the 2 rubber straps. that's where i keep mine.

Thanks!

I apreciate everyone's help. Now I'll try and figure out which is better, replacing the area there or Por 15 the whole thing.

If anyone has any comments on either, I'll take whatever I can get.

Thanks again all.

IMHO, taking the time to correctly replace the metal would be the better of the two choices.
