'74 upholstery?

Can anyone tell me when Porsche started using cloth inserts on 914 seats.I am looking at a car which has black cloth in the centre section of the seats. I thought that didnt happen until 1975. Anyone know?

It happened first in 1970, I believe. The exact cloth available varied from year to year. Check in the "Restorer's Guide to Authenticity", by Brett Johnson, for details. Available in a number of places, including the "Technical Documentation" section of Pelican's on-line catalog.

I want to do the bolsters of the seats in black vinyl, with black and white houndstooth cloth for my orange 914, but I gotta buy a battery first. The wife does not like the idea, but I am doing the car for me, if someone likes it when I am dead and does not dig the whole setup, that is not my problem
