Nine Fahrvergnügen , gone kaput
I was tooling down the highway approaching my exit, , when all the power went out.
The alternator belt was shredded and laying on the engine. The battery was charged enough that it would still turn over. I checked for spark and there was some Changed out the coil and no change. The fuel pump is working and it has pressure. Looked at the fuses and all seems fine. When in tow I popped the clutch and notta. Opened the dizzy and cleaned the terminals up some. It's a stock 73 1.7 djet setup that always worked well. Just can't think of what else to check. HELP Today I put in new plugs and wires. Notta Replaced the Petronic dizzy with a points type. Notta Mike came over and did his masterful dizzy work. Found TDC reset the dizzy, checked dwell, fuel pressure, replaced fuses. Learned much, BUT Notta, notta, notta I have ECU's I could try, but they are for earlier 1.7. I do have a 45 for a 2.0, again I don't know if that can work. Any other suggestions Last edited by Teknon914; 05-11-2006 at 08:14 PM.. |

I would take off the air cleaner and spray starting fluid into the air intake. you said you have spark, so it should fire on the starting fluid, and that would confirm it's a fuel system problem, not an ignition problem.

What do you mean by "has some spark"? It has a weak pathetic spark, or it has a spark but not all of the time--or just "yes it has spark"?
It needs fuel, air, and spark. It also needs about the right amount of fuel, and the spark in some vague approximation of the right time. Check the compression to tell if you've got air going in. Check for fuel going into the engine itself (not just into the fuel system creating pressure). Re-check for a good fat happy spark. Re-re check the static timing; it should be close to TDC. If all of that checks out, you've got a fuel quantity problem. --DD

Now maybe i''ll drive my 78 Bronco over a couple little cars and get some different fun. Almost for got about the beast. Still up for suggestions. |
