914 stance

ive noticed lately that my car loves to point its nose into the air, maybe its trying to show some pride, but im really not sure....?!?!?....haha but really, i have a friend down the street who owns an all original 73 914. i currently own a 72 914. what i want to know is, why does the front of his car sit SO low to the ground, where as my cars front end sticks up. is this simply in the struts? if so what kind of struts do you guys use to get the car lower. anywayz thanks for any replys

ride height is adjustable in the front I believe. I have not looked into it, but a torsion bar is a torsion bar, and the read of a IRS bug has torsion bars that set the height in back, try searching the club

You don't have to "search the club".

The front of the car has torsion bars, so adjustment is fairly easy. If you'll look in your Haynes manual, you'll find pics of the bolt you need to turn to raise or lower the car. Make sure to bounce the car and roll it around a bit in between adjustments, though!

The rear of the car uses coil springs. You cannot change the ride height unless you have some non-stock parts on there. Some Bilstein and Koni shocks have a lower spring perch that rests on a C-clip, which you can move to several different grooves. This will change the rear ride height. And there are "threaded collar" type kits that give you more "analog" adjustments of the lower spring perch as well. But those are all non-stock parts.

The rear springs do, after 3-4 decades, tend to sag somewhat. If your car is now more nose-high than it used to be, that is one possible cause. This usually only happens over the very long term, though.

does adjusting the torsion bars effect the alignment? i'm always afraid to mess with front end stuff for that reason...
