One Option For Mounting A Rear Fog Light
Below are some photos of the Rear fog light custom mounted on my 1970 914-6. It is a Hella chrome rear fog light and I opted to mount it on an extension from the rear license plate, now more firmly secured to the rear bumper. The rear fog light is wired to a separate switch (separate from the front fog lights) and since my 914 does not have a rear window defogger, I accessed the existing dash and relay plate electricals which meant I had to run only a single wire from one post on the relay plate to the rear fog light unit itself (the front post which formerly had a green wire plugged into it which is for a rear window defogger). I had a factory rear fog light wiring harness which a bought from a PORSCHE parts retailer a few years ago, and I modified it to run between the relay plate and the rear light unit. The dash switch simply plugged into the existing wiring for the rear window defogger system and I used a later style 914 front fog light emblem, as opposed to the early 914 green fog light emblem for the front fog lights (I installed OEM H3 front fog lights in place of the original tungsden bulb units as well). Any and all feedback is welcome.

I think that the original fog light switch has a connector for the rear fog light. But the rear fog light will be always on when the front fog lights are on.
You can wire it to be on with the a) first click of the switch or b)after the second click of the switch. Meaning: a) Rear fog light on first click, Rear and front fog lights with the second click. b) Front fog lights on first click Front Fog lights and rear fog light on with the second click. |

One click
The original fog light switch on a 914 has only one setting, not two. It is on-off, and there is no separate pole for the rear fog light. You would have to double up on one pole, which perhaps is how the rear fog light was wired. I chose a separate switch instead.

Sorry, I thought the fog light switches in the 914 were the same as in the 911.
