Milwaukee IS in the Chicago Area when you’re talking Midwest 914’s right?
I’m in Waukesha, just west of Milwaukee, about 100 miles from Downers Grove. I actually got my ’73 from a guy in McHenry, IL, and my 2.0L from a guy in Madison. There are a few of us here in the Milwaukee area; one guy doing a 6 conversion, another with what sounds like a nice stock 914, one with what I think is an abandoned frame up restore, another with 2 teeners sitting in his garage (saw them once driving by), and of course the auto shop guy who still has what’s left of a couple 914’s I took (bought) parts off of 12 years ago. You would now have to dig those out of the dirt/mud/muck with a shovel. I hear there are also several really nice 914’s in the Madison area; one tube racer 914 that I know of which is really slick looking. Just tell me when and where for the next get-together and I’ll be there…so long as it’s after I get my F.I. problems licked .Tim ’73 914 2.0L www.coolfuelcells.com/914 [This message has been edited by TimW (edited 04-12-2001).] |

I'll always fondly remember the big "DOWNERS MART" sign.
![]() My address-of-record at various times has been in Chi itself (5200N), and in Lisle. I didn't actually live there, but that was my official address. I grew up downstate (for the rest of you, that's anywhere BUT Chicagoland) in Urbana, went to school in Galesburg. (You'll have to look that one up--unless you like trains or Stearman biplanes.) I've still got a bunch of friends in the area. I've also met some 914 folks out there. Glenn Stazak, from the 914 Club webpage, is one. One of the Pauls (Paul Holdredge?) is in the north 'burbs, or was a few years ago. --DD |

Okay how weird is this? Keep in mind there aren’t a lot of 914’s in WI.
I just got my teener running a few days ago and I’m still working out all the kinks. While on a short 1 mile test run some guy followed me home. Turns out he lives about a mile away in a neighboring subdivision and across the street from a very good friend of mine. He has the exact same 914 as mine, a Signal Orange 1973 2.0L. Well, his is in better condition .What are the odds? And what timing! [This message has been edited by TimW (edited 04-19-2001).] |

Mike:
There's quite a few of us in the Chicago area. Five or six of us got together for breakfast in the fall, bs'd and compared cars. Hopefully, some kind of get-together will actually take place this summer. If you or anyone else out there is even the slightest bit interested, you can e-mail me at headsup2@hotmail.com Howard Henneman 74 2.0 |
