Is it easier to leave the engine in the car when replacing the flywheel oil main seal
Instead of doing an engine drop I'd imagine it would be a shortcut to just remove the tranny leaving the engine still mounted to the chassis when replacing a leaking main oil seal.
Anyone done it that way instead of a complete engine drop? How long should this take for a competent DIYer with access to a lift and lift table? |

That's what I did when I replaced my clutch. It wasn't bad at all.

With access to a lift and lift table, it shouldn't be bad at all! The worst part seems to be trying to get the transmission lined up when you re-install it, but that's mostly just for those of us who make do with floor jacks.

I removed the saddle on my floor jack and built a little wooden "table" that I bolted down in its place. The "table" was actually just two pieces of 2x4 about 12" long screwed together. Then I put a strap around the tranny and the "table". The car was up on ramps. Worked very slick and seemed "relatively" safe.
