Borrow a car, pull the motor, see what's wrong, and maybe we have some parts for you. I have a block, crank and rods from a 1.7 type 411.

Maybe you lost a seat. Don't panic yet.

Britt I will have a running 1.7 engine tomorrow complete with FI & ECU. Its yours FREE if you want it, just give me your complete bad motor. We can work out the details on how to get the engines to each other.

Let me know - Garold

Hats off to Garold! Britt has worked hard to learn these cars. He's a hard working Collage kid. He deserves a break!

Garold, you are a king among men! Rick, you have helped me in more ways than my parents have. I am not kidding. Thank you.

More than anything I wish I could turn everything back, back to when I put the carb on or when I let the timing go a degree or two advanced.

I dont know what's going to happen to the 914.

Been one hell of a day.

describe the noise?

did you kill the ignition and then just roll off the road or did you continue to drive it?

no man...it was a metal to metal grinding sound, something ive NEVER heard before. I dont think it dropped a seat or a valve, since it turned over somewhat freely after the incident...somewhat meaning it made complete revolutions after, but with some huge resistance it seemed like (friction) which led me to believe its something with the bearings.

I am going to take it down tomorrow I think (i'm off from work) and look and see what's going on...I'll talk to my dad tomorrow as well, see if I can at least shelve it somewhere till I figure out what I want to do.

Between wanting to move out, get a car to drive and keep the 914 somewhere else, i'm spread pretty thin

While you're there, respect your Mom.

Get out ASAP... There's nothing like this group offering to help in any way possible. If your Mom can't see that...

The 914 is a infliction that I have, a disease if you will. I might be down now, but i'm sure as hell not out for the count.

I'm trying my best to be the best I can for my family while i'm there...but i'm currently looking for a place to go next. I'm just at the end of my straw. Drinking straw, dont get excited AA.

Have you done any investigation as to what the noise is/was?

I'm thinking it could possibly be in the fan housing or the fan pulley or alternator rubbing on something. Other than that, it may be at the clutch end of the crank.

I once had a fan come loose and it rubbed on the fan shroud causing a hell of a noise. I looked down the timing cover hole and I saw metal shavings....

I only had ot tighten 3 bolts and was back in business. I ended up using blue locktite on those three bolts when I got the chance.

It may be worth a shot to do some investigation.

Good luck.

wishful thinking

those bolts were TIGHT.

it seems like something is stuck, like when you try to start the engine with the clutch in and in gear, like THAT much resistance.

Well if it is inevitable, start saving your money for a "rust-free" California tub when you start to build one as it is easier to start with a good tub than start with a rusty one.

Strip your car of good parts (like the windshield rubber seals) and stash them away for your future project....

Yup, the unobtainable (currently) targa top seal up both sides and across the top. The rear targa bar upholstry (upper) if it is in good conditon (most of them are cracked in the center).

Any parts listed as NLA on Pelican.......

If my parents had told me to get rid of mine while in college, it would have disappeared into boxes.

Luckily, my dad also has the 914 affliction (he gave the disease to me).
