Paint ideas? A "Foose" sketch?
I am at a loss as to where to go with paint. I have a '75 2.0 that is in mostly stock condition - this will all change. I now have my garage space and am ready to start my conversion. I know the purists on here don't like it but I am going the EJ20t (wrx) route. My daily driver is an '05 WRX wagon and I am addicted to boost... 0-60 should NEVER take 5 seconds!! I live at 5300' and spend many weekends up at 10,500' so boost is almost a necessity cause we don't have any friggin' air up here. At 10,500 I would be making about 40 or 50 hp on the stock 2.0 - that's not an option.
But I haven't really come up with any ideas on the body, I'll need a bit more rubber in the rear - so the fender flares have got my attention, especially since you can get the steels for under a grand. I do like the look of the GT bodies, so that is a possiblity but I ran across this pic today. ![]() I like the subtlty of this setup, is this just "pulled"??? cause it really does look nice. I'm also liking the painted roof. All the chrome has got to go and will probably shave the handles. I wouldn't mind a bit of body work to "attenuate" what Porsche has delivered. But this is just the surface, are there any artist renderings (or photos) that just grab ya?? On Overhaulin', Chip Foose can put some serious art into every design he runs across - I need help in this department. Please post any pics of renderings, paint jobs, etc... not "crazy" ideas, just things that scream - different, muscle, etc... (I wonder what Chip would charge for a drawing??) |

I just emailed Foose and the response was:
"Hi Matt, Chip does not take personal sketch requests due to the fact that he would never get anything else accomplished, other than drawing all day long, which I am sure that he wouldn't mind really! However, he does do personalized sketches for everybody at all of his car shows. Sometimes he will stay 9 or 10 hours after the show just to do those sketches. So make sure that you track him down the next time that he is in or near your area. Thank you for your message, Chip Foose Customer Service" |

I went to the same design school as Chip but am in a completely different profession. I'm doing some 914 sketches for a couple of people in my limited spare time. I may be available for more...

I like this a lot - this is pure artistry... I'm assuming you are sticking to the Ghia style fender flares...
![]() I like the bumper here, but the hood scoop isn't quite right... not sure what it needs... ![]() the side scoops really look perfect on this... ![]() Felix - I notice in all your sketches above that you delete the small quarter windows on the doors... is this done/solved already?? are people going with a single roll up window?? |

Why not go take a class at the local community college in body work. Find someplace that has all that panel working gear, English Wheel, those little stretcher tools etc. Allows access to expensive equipment for a pittance. Make a few fenders, do one side at a time, passenger side first. There is a picture in your head of what it should look like(hopefully). You could always go glass flare, but there is something about a metal car I feel better about driving on the street
Just saw sketch, very cool, window might be tough, unless you can find a car that is close, which a lot of people have been trying to do for a while

Thanks Baloo914,
The single piece window problem has been mostly solved, check the link to it here The "ghia" flares were hand formed in metal. ![]()
