Proper way to repair rust in engine compartment?

I’m going to bring my car to the shop soon to have the “hell-hole” area repaired and I was wondering if there is a right way to weld in the replacement metal? Should the shop butt-weld or lap-weld in the new panels or is there some other welding technique to use? What else should I make sure the shop does to ensure a good repair job?

I did my own and I lap welded it all.

fast, strong, cheap and easy.

Thanks for the info. I'll bring the pic showing the location of the battery tray along so the shop doing the work will know where it goes. I only have two weeks of welding training and I want the job done right so I'm going to have someone with lots of experience do it for me. Hopefully I'll find a shop with competent people to do the work.

My car's hell-hole:

The PO of my car seems to have replaced the tray, but didn't do anything behind it. Now it has rust, besides, there is a hole in the fender (inside by tire). Any sugestions?
(I have a post about this too.)
