Sheetmetal replacement
Hi everyone....
![]() I just purchased my first porsche 914-4 and i'm curious about vendors for sheetmetal replacement parts... My 914 has some small rust which I intend to repair (small hell-hole, threshold plate, sill triangles, and some spots on the inner rockers) I've researched a bit online and found *********** and restoration design both sell replacement metal parts for the 914. my question is this...are there differences in quality, fit, metal thickness between the two manufacturers, because there is certainly a price difference between the two forementioned vendors..... Any input is greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks in Advance, HelmetHead |

Restoration Design is the manufacturer and a good vendor.

Most of the 914 sheetmetal you can find is manufactured by RD. We do not carry it at this point because we have had problems communicating with them, which results in Pelican customers that are PO'd at us...
Some people have been able to contact them with no fuss, and have gotten excellent service from them. (Sounds like "if you can get through you're good"...) As for AA, I will simply suggest you search on their name on any 914-related BBS or email server. --DD

Gentlemen,
Thank you both for your replys.....being in sales, I can relate to vendor communication/upset customers..etc.... I will research more on the various forums...(although, this is by far the best!!! ![]() Having restored two VW bugs in my youth(before wife/kids).... I know all to well the importance of finding a good vendor for parts. Thanks again, HelmetHead 1970 914-4 |
